Dr. Shameem M. Ahmed, MD
Dr. Shameem Ahmed has been in the field of Gastroenterology since 1990 and is a double board certified physician in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at North East Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and section head of Gastroenterology at Summa Barberton Hospital. He maintains active privileges in all greater Akron area hospitals and holds professional organization membership in the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).
Dr. Ahmed is passionate about the patient and family centered practice of Gastroenterology and preventive digestive care. Along with his partners, he was instrumental in bringing many new and advanced medical procedures to the Summit County area. Some of these procedures include using Spy Glass technology to examine bile ducts, Radio Frequency ablation to treat Barrett’s esophagus and early esophagus cancers, Double Balloon Enteroscopy to diagnose and treat small bowel diseases, and Endoscopic Ultrasound to diagnose and stage various cancers, especially cancer of the pancreas.
Dr. Ahmed received his fellowship training in Gastroenterology from Mount Sinai Medical School at the Bronx Veteran Hospital in New York. He has research publications in both Alcoholic Liver disease and Vitamin Metabolism. His residency in Internal Medicine was completed at the Case Western Reserve University through St. Lukes Hospital. He received his medical degree M.B.B.S. from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India.
Dr. Ahmed’s interests outside of medicine include volunteering in the community, studying human behavior, literature, poetry, and audio-video technology.
